Dr. Zakir H. Amiri (Exc. Director): Dr. Zakir Hussain Amiri graduated from Medical Faculty of Balkh University in 1999. With over two decades of dedicated service, he has been at the forefront of improving healthcare, nutrition, and livelihood security for vulnerable families particularly mothers and children in the central highlands of Afghanistan. From 2001 to 2009, Dr. Amiri worked as a medical doctor in community-based healthcare centers, delivering essential health services with the support of Action Against Hunger and the Bakhtar Development Network (BDN). Beyond his clinical practice, he has been a passionate advocate for the well-being of rural communities, particularly in Daikundi province. His advocacy efforts successfully mobilized international organizations and government entities to invest in critical sectors such as health, education, and agriculture, significantly improving the quality of life for underserved populations. Dr. Amiri’s commitment to social development extends beyond healthcare. Recognizing the importance of policy-level engagement, he twice ran as a parliamentary candidate representing the people of Daikundi in the Afghan parliamentary elections of 2006 and 2010, garnering more than 6,000 votes. His candidacy was driven by a deep desire to be a true voice for his community within the Afghan government. Understanding the pressing needs of impoverished communities and the importance of sustainable grassroots initiatives, Dr. Amiri took a bold step in 2010 by co-founding Labor Spring Organization (LSO) alongside a group of like-minded young professionals and registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan. Since its inception, LSO has played a pivotal role in delivering humanitarian aid, capacity-building programs, and development initiatives across Daikundi, Bamyan, and Kabul provinces. Dr. Amiri continues to dedicate his expertise to bridging healthcare gaps, fostering economic resilience, and uplifting marginalized populations.  He can be reached at zakir.amiri@laborspring.org.af or +93 77 238 483 4
